Cheyenne’s Favourite Erotic Stories Read in 2013

My favorite erotic stories are ones with heart. I don’t necessarily mean romantic hearts and flowers, I mean stories which offer something beyond sex, something beyond Tab X into Slot Y. You could say my favorite erotic stories are stories first, and erotic second. Call me old school.

My top ten stories listed here are all short stories published in multi-author anthologies. I’m a lover of the short story, both to read and to write, and while I’ve read some wonderful longer works this year, I’m sticking with shorts for my choices. I’m picking single stories though, as most of the anthologies are ones in which I too have a story.

Again, this list is in no particular order. Links go to the anthology.

Need a last minute holiday gift? All of these are available as ebooks. All

  1. “Canvas” by Renee Roberts from “Down and Dirty: 69 Super Sexy Short-Shorts” edited by Alison Tyler. The narrator yearns for the inked dom behind the bar. And she gets her in a flickering reality of skin and ink and words laid as precisely as tattoos on virgin skin.
  2. “Making Myself at Home” by Jeremy Edwards from The Mammoth Book of Quick & Dirty Erotica edited by Maxim Jakubowski. A layered tale about watching and being watched.
  3. “Midnight Clear” by Laila Blake from “A Christmas to Remember: Five Festive Tales of Lesbian Lust” put out by Ladylit. Naked scampering in the snow, and a poignant tale of warmth and friendship and something more.
  4. “Foxy and the Ridiculous Lesbian Orgy” by Allison Moon from “Wild Girls, Wild Nights: True Lesbian Sex Stories” edited by Sacchi Green. A highly original set up and a fantastic romp of a tale.
  5. “What I Want, What I Need” by Jacqueline Applebee from “Twice the Pleasure: Bisexual Women’s Erotica” edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel. A wonderfully fluid tale about a lesbian getting over a breakup.
  6. “Come to the Light” by Maria See from “Sudden Sex: 69 Sultry Short Stories” edited by Alison Tyler. A butch with DDD breasts. I loved this subtle little story, and how it throws aside stereotypes.
  7. “The History of Her Tongue” by Shaun Levin also from The Mammoth Book of Quick & Dirty Erotica edited by Maxim Jakubowski. Literary erotica as it used to be. Truly stunning. If I had to pick one story as my favorite, it would be this one.
  8. “One More Transformation” by Nobilis Reed from “Coming Together: In Vein edited by Lisabet Sarai. Highly original (and hot) vampire story.
  9. “Sgt. Rae” by Sacchi Green from Best Lesbian Romance 2013 edited by Radclyffe. A powerful story of love and memory between military women.
  10. “Tripartite” by Georgia E Jones from “Sudden Sex: 69 Sultry Short Stories” edited by Alison Tyler. This atmospheric story is about that most delicious of scenarios: friends into lovers.

Best Lesbian Romance 2012

Best Lesbian Romance 2012 is out. Here’s the gorgeous cover (OK, here’s not the cover, as I can’t save it from Amazon for some reason) but here it is on Amazon.

My story “Rule 4” is included here, along with stories by such wonderful authors as Lisabet Sarai, JL Merrow, Rachel Kramer Bussel and Evan Mora.

Here’s an excerpt from my story, “Rule 4”:

“Rule 4,” I’d told Jazz one evening, a few years ago, when I’d lost another housemate after we’d ended up in bed after Mexican food and margaritas. To me she’d been a friend with benefits; to her, I’d been The One.

“What’s Rule 4?”

“Never seduce a housemate. Keep it separate.”

“What are rules 1 through 3?”

“I dunno. I’ll think of them later.”

I’d had many housemates since that time, and many lovers, but since the instigation of Rule 4, they had never overlapped. And I’d never been particularly tempted – until Joanna.

Books! Books!

I love it when the mailman staggers to my door. If he’s overloaded, red, and sweating it generally means one thing: books!

Either books ordered from my new favorite place to buy – The Book Depository (FREE worldwide delivery and books at UK prices. Did I say FREE worldwide delivery, ladies and gentlemen? That’s one huge saving, especially for me in Australia.) or it means contributor’s copies.

Some of my recent contributor’s copies include “Best Lesbian Romance 2011”* edited by Radclyffe which includes my story set in a Magdalene Laundry in Ireland.

We don’t talk, except in whispers, our heads under the covers. Often, we don’t talk at all, we simply align our bodies together and let our hands do the talking, gestures of reassurance, of caring, of love. I’ll spoon behind Maura, and my palms will smooth over her belly, smoothing away the pain from her womb, and the absence of its produce. I’ll soak in the warmth and comfort of another body, and let my hands convey all the love that I have. Or Maura will cradle my head on her breast and stroke my shoulders, my back, and whisper words of love into my hair.

Then there’s “Lesbian Lust: Erotic Stories”* edited by Sacchi Green. This includes my own “A Story About Sarah”. My tale is set in a mining camp in Western Australia. Told by Melly, a half-Aboriginal woman, it’s a paen to her lover Sarah.

It was a long time before we did anything but kiss. Months. Why seek more when what you have is so perfect? Sarah’s kisses are like the creek that flows down the red bluff after rain: at first it’s barely there, the merest hint of what’s to come, before it swells and falls into something so deep you could drown in it. Then it overflows, and unleashed it swirls into a fierce, raging passion.

*Yeah, I know. The links go to Amazon. But I’m a poor erotic writer struggling to make a crust and those tiny $$s from Amazon from the referral links add up. So shoot me. 😦

Story acceptances

It seems I am woefully awful at updating. I’d like to say that I spent the time when I should have been updating writing new stories, but that’s not entirely true either. I spent most of it cooking, running, reading some seriously good stories, futzing around on the web. Oh, and moving back to Australia.

I have been writing though (of course), and I have some rather wonderful acceptances to prove it. Continue reading “Story acceptances”

Happy success stories

It’s always great when a story really comes together and when you lift fingers from the keyboard at the end, you know you’ve got a story to be proud of. “Wing Walker” was one of those, and it will be in Rachel Kramer Bussel’s “The Mile High Club: Plane Sex Stories” coming out from Cleis Press in April. Coming out in January 2009, again from Cleis is “Best Lesbian Romance 2009” edited by Radclyffe. This includes my story “Eyes” (writing as Maggie Kinsella). And finally, also from Cleis, due in June 2009, is “Girl Crazy: Coming Out Erotica” which will include my story “Flannel and Fleece”.

The next best thing to running a marathon, is…

Reading about it.

“Marathon Woman” was up on Clean Sheets, one of my favorite erotica sites. I also have copies of “Lipstick on Her Collar”. edited by Sacchi Green and Rakelle Valencia. I’m the first story in the book, which makes me very happy. Continue reading “The next best thing to running a marathon, is…”
